Kodaline
Formed in Swords, County Dublin, Kodaline brings together Steve Garrigan, Mark Prendergast, Vinny May Jr. and Jason Boland. The quartet first attracted attention under the name 21 Demands before adopting the name Kodaline in 2012, at a time when their songwriting moved in a more distinctly pop-rock and alternative-rock direction. Kodaline's music rests on direct melodies, clean guitars, arrangements often centered on piano, and a significant emphasis on ballads, with an aesthetic that oscillates between indie pop, melodic rock and intimate singer-songwriter material. After early EPs and singles, Kodaline released In a Perfect World in 2013, Coming Up for Air in 2015, Politics of Living in 2018 and One Day at a Time in 2020. Across these albums they have evolved their production toward a broader, more pop-oriented sound while retaining a band structure and a repertoire built on personal themes, often relating to relationships, absence and memory. Kodaline has thus established itself on Irish, British and European stages in an accessible register between atmospheric rock and contemporary pop.
