Snow Patrol

Born in Dundee, Scotland, among musicians from Northern Ireland, Snow Patrol began to take shape in 1994 under different names before adopting their current identity in 1997. The band developed a melodic alternative rock positioned between indie rock and post‑Britpop, characterized by bright guitars, gradual buildups and songwriting that moves between expansive choruses and more restrained ballads. After early releases on the Jeepster label with Songs for Polarbears (1998) and When It’s All Over We Still Have to Clear Up (2001), Snow Patrol scaled up in the early 2000s, notably after guitarist Nathan Connolly joined and Final Straw (2003), produced by Jacknife Lee, was released. Eyes Open (2006) firmly established Snow Patrol’s sound — between pop tension and atmospheric rock — and A Hundred Million Suns (2008) broadened that vein further. With Fallen Empires (2011) the band introduced more electronic textures; Johnny McDaid, initially a collaborator on the album, later joined the lineup officially. After Wildness (2018) the group continued touring clubs and festivals. In 2023 Jonny Quinn and Paul Wilson left Snow Patrol, which continued as a trio around Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly and Johnny McDaid, before releasing The Forest Is the Path in 2024.
