Passenger

Born in Brighton under the name Mike Rosenberg, Passenger first used that name with a band formed in the mid-2000s, before making it his solo project after the group split in 2009. His journey has unfolded between England and Australia, notably through a busking practice that fed a direct, narrative writing style. Passenger operates in a folk rock, indie folk and indie pop repertoire, centered on acoustic guitar, understated melodies and a voice instantly recognizable. After the band’s Wicked Man’s Rest album in 2007, Mike Rosenberg released under the name Passenger Wide Eyes Blind Love in 2009, Divers & Submarines in 2010 and Flight of the Crow in 2010, then broadened his audience with All the Little Lights in 2012, powered by the track Let Her Go. The rest of his discography shows a continuity in songwriting and arrangements, with Whispers in 2014, Whispers II in 2015, Young as the Morning Old as the Sea in 2016, The Boy Who Cried Wolf in 2017, Runaway in 2018, Sometimes It’s Something, Sometimes It’s Nothing at All in 2019, Patchwork in 2020, Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted in 2021 and Birds That Flew and Ships That Sailed in 2022. Passenger has also toured international folk and pop stages, both under his own name and as the opening act for artists such as Ed Sheeran, maintaining a stripped-down aesthetic where confession, everyday observation and a melodic sensibility inherited from British folk prevail.
