Sleeping At Last
Led by composer and singer Ryan O’Neal, Sleeping At Last emerged in the late 1990s in Wheaton, a suburb of Chicago in the United States. Initially a rock trio with Chad O’Neal on drums and Dan Perdue on bass, the band developed on the local independent scene before signing with a major label in the early 2000s, a period marked by the 2003 album Ghosts. After returning to independence and releasing the albums Keep No Score in 2006 and Storyboards in 2009, the project refocused around Ryan O’Neal alone, who kept the Sleeping At Last name and pursued a more intimate songwriting style, blending indie folk, orchestral pop, and ambient textures. His compositional work then took shape in thematic cycles, such as the monthly Yearbook series in 2010–2011, followed by the concept albums Atlas: Year One in 2014 and Atlas: Year Two in 2019, drawing inspiration from astronomy, psychology, and nature. His songs, often built around piano, strings, and delicate arrangements, are frequently associated with music for films, television, and trailers.
