Oceans Ate Alaska

Formed in Birmingham in the early 2010s, Oceans Ate Alaska operates in a highly technical British metalcore, fed by complex rhythms, progressive breaks and a constant interplay between frontal aggression, melodic passages and dissonances. The band first drew attention with the EP Into the Deep in 2012, before signing to Fearless Records and releasing Lost Isles in 2015, followed by Hikari in 2017, an album that develops a more detailed writing and arrangements inspired by Japanese sounds. Oceans Ate Alaska's trajectory is also marked by several lineup changes, notably in vocals, with James Harrison leaving in 2016, the arrival of Jake Noakes, and Harrison's return in 2020. In 2022, the band released Disparity, their third studio album, in the continuum of a metalcore with shifting structures, where syncopations, accelerations and texture contrasts occupy a central place. Used to international tours and stages linked to modern metal and hardcore, Oceans Ate Alaska has shared the bill with bands such as Northlane, Wage War or Born of Osiris. Since 2024, Joel Heywood has handled vocals, while the core formed around Chris Turner, James Kennedy and Mike Stanton continues to drive the project's evolution.
