Iceage
Formed in Copenhagen in 2008 around Elias Bender Rønnenfelt, Johan Surrballe Wieth, Dan Kjær Nielsen and Jakob Tvilling Pless, Iceage emerged from the Danish DIY scene with a tense, short and abrasive post‑punk informed by punk rock, noise rock and no wave. The debut album New Brigade (2011) established this dry, frontal format, before You’re Nothing (2013) broadened the writing without losing its nervous edge. With Plowing Into the Field of Love (2014) Iceage widened its spectrum further, incorporating more melodic arrangements and forms close to gothic rock and art punk. Beyondless (2018) continued the shift toward a more expansive rock, threaded with blues, dark balladry and post‑punk tension, while Seek Shelter (2021) further emphasized clarity in the songs. Remaining faithful to a four‑piece line‑up, Iceage toured early on the independent European and North American scenes, retaining a physical, jagged and mutable sound from record to record.
