Kim Gordon
Active since the early 1980s, Kim Gordon stands at the intersection of experimental rock, noise rock, and post-punk, with a trajectory split between the American West Coast, where she grew up, and the New York scene, where she established herself as a musician. A co-founder of Sonic Youth, Gordon forged within the band a sonic aesthetic centered on dissonant guitars, abrasive textures, and a half-spoken, half-sung delivery that opens a space between performance and intimate writing. After Sonic Youth came to an end, she extended this exploration through several experimental projects, notably Body/Head, her duo with guitarist Bill Nace, before releasing under her own name the albums “No Home Record” (2019) and “The Collective” (2024), which probe a more direct interplay between heavy rhythms, spoken word, and melodic fragments. Situated between alternative rock, controlled noise, and no wave influences, Gordon’s music remains closely tied to the independent and art scenes of New York and Los Angeles, while appearing regularly on international festival stages and in contexts where experimental music and visual art intersect.
