My New Band Believe

Born out of the London scene, My New Band Believe coalesces around Cameron Picton following the end of black midi in 2023, a band in which he played bass and was one of the singers. Rather than a conventional solo project, Picton conceives My New Band Believe as an open ensemble assembled around songs and performances, with contributions from musicians close to the British experimental scene, including Kiran Leonard, Caius Williams, Steve Noble and several members of caroline. The music of My New Band Believe moves away from black midi’s taut rock toward a largely acoustic compositional approach, where English folk, baroque pop, chamber rock and experimental song intersect in shifting forms. The pieces progress by contrast — through oblique narratives, shifts in dynamics and collective arrangements that build up and dissolve. In My New Band Believe, Cameron Picton retains a taste for unstable structures and vivid mental imagery, but frames them more sparsely, nourished as much by the folk tradition as by a contemporary ensemble-oriented approach.
