Friko
Anchored in Chicago’s independent scene, Friko brings together Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger in a duo that intersects indie rock, art rock and chamber pop, with songwriting that alternates between melodic restraint and more abrasive surges. Formed in the late 2010s, Friko first emerged with singles and shorter formats in which piano, guitar and a very mobile drum kit established a balance between songcraft, rhythmic tension and noisier departures. Friko’s music is built on clear contrasts—fragile ballads, orchestral swells and passages close to noise rock or post‑rock—while staying within a pop framework. In 2024 Friko released their debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, which extends this aesthetic by expanding the arrangements and the band’s dynamics. Friko has since played stages across North America, Europe and Asia, both headlining shows and touring with bands such as Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, Water From Your Eyes and Black Country, New Road.
