Extrawelt

Extrawelt is the project of Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe, two Hamburg-based producers whose collaboration dates back to the late 1990s through projects like Spirallianz and Midimiliz, originally rooted in psytrance, acid and progressive electronic music. Launched in 2005 after a contact with James Holden, Extrawelt marked a shift toward a more open compositional approach at the crossroads of techno, minimal, electro and electronica, with tracks constructed like narratives, blending rhythmic tension, oblique melodies and sometimes dark textures. The first maxi singles, including Soopertrack in 2005, followed by releases on Border Community, Traum Schallplatten and Cocoon, quickly established Extrawelt's name on the European electronic scene. The duo later released the albums Schöne neue Extrawelt (2008), In Aufruhr (2011) and Fear of an Extra Planet (2017), while continuing regular work in EP format. Since then Extrawelt has alternated between live sets and club productions, with a trajectory tied both to Germany's historic techno labels and to international festival and club scenes.
