Oliver Huntemann

Based in Hamburg and born in 1968 in Hanover, Oliver Huntemann grew up in Oldenburg, where he discovered DJing early on by recording radio shows and mixing his first maxi singles. Initially influenced by North American rap and breakdance culture, he turned to acid house at the end of the 1980s and began organising electronic nights in his city. Sessions with DJ and sound engineer Gerret Frerichs and jazz musician H. G. Schmidt gave rise to the Humate project, which released notable records on the Berlin label MFS in the early 1990s. In 1995 Huntemann launched his own label, Confused Recordings, developed the Super 8 studio and released techno productions on imprints such as Cocoon and Datapunk. His albums Too Many Presents For One Girl (2004), Fieber (2006), H-3 (2009), Paranoia (2011) and Propaganda (2017) define a techno/tech‑house‑oriented sound—often linear, dark and functional—where rhythmic tension takes precedence over melody. At the same time, Huntemann regularly collaborates with Stephan Bodzin on the Rekorder and H‑Man series, worked as a duo with Dubfire on the Elements maxis and developed the PLAY! mix series recorded in clubs like D‑Edge in São Paulo and the Rex Club in Paris. Active as a remixer, he has revisited tracks by Underworld, The Chemical Brothers and Depeche Mode, extending his precise, stripped-down approach to club music in these reinterpretations.
