Marek Hemmann

Born in Gera in 1979 and based in Jena since 2005, Marek Hemmann has developed a career within the German electronic scene since the early 2000s, navigating between minimal techno, minimal house and melodic techno. Initially active as a guitarist before turning to electronic music, Hemmann was part of the wave of clubs and techno parties in Thuringia in the late 1990s. He released his first maxi singles on Raum...Musik, Milnor Modern and notably Freude am Tanzen, the Jena label with which his name remains closely associated. Alongside his solo work, he formed the duo Hemmann & Kaden with Mathias Kaden, a project that drew attention on several label releases in the mid-2000s. His debut album In Between appeared in 2009, followed by Only Our Hearts to Lose in 2011 under the name Marian with Fabian Reichelt, then Bittersweet in 2013, Moments in 2016 and Five in 2024. His productions blend flexible techno structures, clear melodic lines, dry grooves and more sensitive textures, with vocals regularly featured, as on several tracks with Fabian Reichelt. Marek Hemmann also maintains an ongoing schedule of live performances and remixes, combining rhythmic precision with a warmer compositional approach.
