Elbow

Formed in Bury, in Greater Manchester, in the early 1990s, Elbow brought together Guy Garvey, Mark Potter, Craig Potter and Pete Turner around a core that remained stable over the decades, later joined by drummer Alex Reeves, who became an official member in 2024 after Richard Jupp's departure in 2016. Initially active under other names before adopting Elbow in 1997, the band established itself on the British scene with broadly scoped alternative rock, blending indie rock, art rock, post-Britpop and more atmospheric passages reminiscent of dream pop. Elbow develops expansive and detailed writing, where guitars, piano and keyboards build tracks often progressive in form without losing the sense of melody. After several EPs at the end of the 1990s, the group released Asleep in the Back in 2001, Cast of Thousands in 2003, Leaders of the Free World in 2005 and The Seldom Seen Kid in 2008, an album that marks a turning point in their trajectory. The subsequent releases confirm an evolution between orchestral lyricism and leaner formats with Build a Rocket Boys! in 2011, The Take Off and Landing of Everything in 2014, Little Fictions in 2017, Giants of All Sizes in 2019, Flying Dream 1 in 2021 and Audio Vertigo in 2024. Present on large festival stages as well as in orchestra projects, Elbow maintains an identity grounded in long-term thinking, meticulous arrangements and a collective approach to composition.
