dEUS
Born in the early 1990s on the alternative scene in Antwerp, Belgium, dEUS quickly established itself as a rock band with a shifting lineup centered on singer–guitarist Tom Barman. dEUS developed a sound blending indie rock, experimental rock and art rock, where abrasive guitars, more pop-oriented melodic lines, violin and keyboards coexist with often non-linear song structures. The band drew attention with the album “Worst Case Scenario” (1994), marked by a mix of noisy tension and more intimate passages, and followed up with “In a Bar, Under the Sea” (1996), which emphasized the contrasts between straightforward songs and more fragmented compositions. “The Ideal Crash” (1999) placed dEUS in a more coherent and sophisticated register, before a period of hiatus and a renewed activity with “Pocket Revolution” (2005), “Vantage Point” (2008), “Keep You Close” (2011) and “Following Sea” (2012), which explored a darker, more atmospheric side of the band. In 2023 dEUS released “How to Replace It”, confirming the continuity of work centered on writing rock songs that are both melodic and shot through with experimental elements, long supported by substantial live activity in clubs and at festivals across Europe and beyond.
