Hovvdy
Formed in Austin, Texas, Hovvdy brings together Charlie Martin and Will Taylor in a two-voice songwriting partnership that blends indie rock, indie pop and slowcore in a stripped-down format focused on calm melodies, measured tempos and deliberately spare production. Hovvdy debuted in 2014 with an EP, released the split Stay Warm with Loafer in 2015, and issued Taster in 2016 on Double Double Whammy. The duo then broadened into a fuller sound without abandoning their intimate approach on Cranberry (2018) and Heavy Lifter (2019), the latter accompanying a growing presence on the North American indie scene. That year they also shared a split of covers with Lomelda, reflecting the band’s ties to a Texas DIY scene marked by collaborations and joint tours. With True Love in 2021, released by Grand Jury Music, Hovvdy expanded toward a brighter indie-pop palette while retaining discreet harmonies and a taste for muted arrangements. In 2024 the duo released the album Hovvdy on Arts & Crafts, a continuation of a career built on slow songs, soft textures and everyday songwriting.
