Grumpy

Under the name Grumpy, Heaven Schmitt develops a project that relocated from Nashville to New York, operating within indie pop and alternative rock. Grumpy’s music rests on straightforward songwriting, driven by keyboards, guitars, bass and drums that give the songs a distinct melodic tension, with lyrics often focused on desire, relationships and what they leave behind. Grumpy’s trajectory is rooted in the American independent scene, recently marked by joining the Bayonet label and preparing the EP Wolfed. Live, Grumpy functions as a tight-knit band bound by an unusual personal history: around Heaven Schmitt the lineup notably includes two former partners on keys and bass and an ex-husband on drums. That closeness gives Grumpy a particular dynamic, where intimacy, humour and a certain emotional roughness move from track to track without theatrical affectation.
