If you follow the American indie scene that prefers nuance to big effects, Hovvdy is worth checking out. The Austin duo, Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, craft writing with two voices with rare delicacy: restrained tempos, hushed guitars, melodies that settle in without forcing themselves. Their music moves between indie rock, indie pop and slowcore, with a deliberately understated production that lets the harmonies breathe and the small details linger.
Since their DIY beginnings in the mid-2010s, they have built a coherent discography, from Taster to Cranberry and Heavy Lifter, before shedding a bit more light on True Love, then continuing this thread with the album Hovvdy. On stage, you find the same taste for the intimate: songs that speak to everyday life, carried by a discreet warmth and melodic clarity.
