IAN SWEET

Behind IAN SWEET is Jilian Medford, a musician from Los Angeles who spent time in Boston before returning to her hometown. Launched as a solo project in the mid-2010s, IAN SWEET occupies an indie rock space where distorted guitars, pop melodies, emo inflections and hazier, dream-pop textures intersect. After the EP Summer Skells, Medford released Shapeshifter in 2016 and Crush Crusher in 2018 — two records that established tense, direct songwriting with a strong vocal focus. With Show Me How You Disappear (2021), IAN SWEET broadened its scope toward a more atmospheric, open style of writing while retaining the contrasts between melodic fragility and saturation. Shiverstruck, released in 2025, continues this evolution in a looser, more introspective vein. On stage as in the studio, IAN SWEET remains primarily Medford’s creative vehicle, although the project can be accompanied by a live band. IAN SWEET has grown within the American indie circuits while maintaining a distinct identity between alternative rock, noise pop and tightly structured songs.
