Medium Build

Under the name Medium Build, Nicholas Carpenter has developed a project since 2016 that began after he moved to Anchorage, Alaska, having grown up in Georgia and studied songwriting in Nashville. His music sits in the realm of alternative pop informed by a singer-songwriter approach, with touches of indie rock, folk and occasional country, often presented in a direct format where personal storytelling remains central. Before Medium Build, Carpenter wrote for the band Little Moses; he later advanced the new moniker through several self-produced and independent releases — from Falling Apart in 2016 to Softboy and Roughboy in 2018, and Wild in 2019. Medium Build broadened its audience with the EP Health in 2023 and the album Country in 2024, while retaining roots in the American indie and pop scenes. Medium Build has toured with Briston Maroney, Lewis Capaldi, FINNEAS and Tyler Childers, performed at South by Southwest in 2023 and at festivals such as Outside Lands, All Things Go and Austin City Limits in 2024. Notable collaborations include “Friend for Life” with X Ambassadors, “Yoke” with Julien Baker and a guest appearance on a version of “Cocoon” by Holly Humberstone.
