The Lathums
Originating in Wigan, Greater Manchester, The Lathums came together in 2018 at TMP College, where Alex Moore, Scott Concepcion and Ryan Durrans initially worked on the same project before the group established itself as a quartet. Matty Murphy later joined on bass following Johnny Cunliffe’s departure. The Lathums craft a British indie-rock sound built on chiming guitars, immediate melodies and songwriting that alternates between restrained tension, acoustic ballads and pop‑rock energy. After self-released early tracks such as “Artificial Screens” and “The Great Escape,” the band quickly attracted attention on the UK independent scene and played Kendal Calling at the invitation of Tim Burgess. Signed to Island in 2020, The Lathums issued several EPs before their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be in 2021, followed by From Nothing to a Little Bit More in 2023 and Matter Does Not Define in 2025. Along the way they opened for Paul Weller, Blossoms and The Killers while expanding their live circuit to festivals like Glastonbury, following a trajectory rooted in the tradition of northern English guitar bands.
