The Enemy
Formed in Coventry in 2006 around Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts, The Enemy fit into a British indie-rock vein influenced by alternative rock and punk. The band is known for short, taut and melodic songs driven by direct guitars and lyrics rooted in urban everyday life, relationships and social observation. The trio first attracted attention with a series of demos and live shows in their hometown, before supporting several British and international acts on tour, including Oasis, Kasabian, Stereophonics and The Rolling Stones. The Enemy went on to release four studio albums that mark their trajectory: We’ll Live and Die in These Towns (2007), Music for the People (2009), Streets in the Sky (2012) and It’s Automatic (2015). After announcing a split in 2016, the group took a break during which Tom Clarke pursued a solo project, releasing the album The Chronicles of Nigel in 2021. The Enemy ultimately resumed activities in 2022 with reunion shows in Coventry and a UK tour, before returning to the festival circuit in 2023.
