SHYGIRL

Born in London in 1993 under the name Blane Muise, Shygirl began within a British scene where rap, club music, and experimental pop intersect. Originating from South London and of Grenadian descent, since the mid-2010s she has developed a vocal writing that alternates singing, spoken word, and rap phrasing, over taut, sensual productions often marked by grime, electronic, and deconstructed club. Shygirl emerged in 2016 with the single 'Want More,' produced with Sega Bodega, a central collaboration in her career, then co-founded with him and Coucou Chloe the collective and label Nuxxe. After the Cruel Practice EP in 2018, she refined a more melodic aesthetic while not abandoning the abrasive textures on Alias in 2020. Her work then circulated between clubs, fashion, and experimental pop scenes, with collaborations with Arca, FKA twigs, Mura Masa, Björk, Tinashe, and Charli XCX. In 2022, Shygirl released her debut album, Nymph, which further foregrounds more flexible and introspective registers while retaining a very clear club base. She extended this direction with Nymph_o in 2023 and then with the Club Shy EP in 2024, conceived around a more direct, hedonistic, and dancefloor-calibrated dance music. As both a DJ and a writer-performer, Shygirl moves between underground electronic and pop formats without settling permanently into a single register.
