Big Thief
Formed in Brooklyn in 2015 around singer-guitarist Adrianne Lenker, Big Thief also features Buck Meek on guitar, Max Oleartchik on bass, and James Krivchenia on drums, a quartet rooted in American indie rock and folk rock. Initially signed to Saddle Creek, the band released Masterpiece in 2016; with 2017’s Capacity they refined a songwriting approach centered on Lenker’s delicate voice and introspective lyrics, supported by spare electric arrangements that shift between folk ballads and more abrasive passages. The group then moved to 4AD for 2019’s U.F.O.F., a hazier, psych-tinged record, quickly followed the same year by Two Hands, recorded in a rawer, more direct manner with a live-rock spirit. In 2022, Big Thief further broadened their scope with the double album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, incorporating elements of rural folk, lo-fi pop, and alternative rock, confirming a steady evolution through regular tours on the North American and European independent circuits.
