Youandewan

Active on the UK house scene since the early 2010s, Youandewan is the alias of producer and DJ Ewan Smith, originally from Yorkshire who passed through Leeds before settling in Berlin. He has developed an intimate, melodic approach to electronic music. First noticed for a series of deep-house maxis with garage inflections and moderate tempos, Youandewan has honed a sound centered on supple grooves, rounded basslines and atmospheric textures often tinged with nostalgia. Releases on labels such as Aus Music, Hypercolour and Secretsundaze mark different stages of his path, between deep house, minimalist techno and more breakbeat-tinged excursions. The 2016 album There Is No Right Time, released on Aus Music, synthesizes a songwriting approach aimed as much at listening as at the club, with particular attention to transitions and dynamic variation. Regularly behind the decks across Europe, Youandewan adapts in his DJ sets this blend of subtle house, pared-back techno and UK references, using tempo shifts and atmospheres to connect his own productions with a wider selection.
