John Beltran
Born in 1969 and based in Lansing, Michigan, John Beltran has been working since the early 1990s in a melodic branch of electronic music that intersects techno, ambient and IDM, with a marked taste for calm textures and supple rhythms. He issued his first records as early as 1991, notably with Mark Wilson in Open House, and later under the alias Placid Angles on Retroactive, Carl Craig’s label. His career reached a broader scope with Earth and Nightfall in 1995 on R&S Records, then Ten Days of Blue in 1996 on Peacefrog, followed by Moving Through Here in 1997 on Apollo. At the end of the 1990s Beltran also took part in the Indio project with Sam McQueen and Seth Taylor, in the orbit of Transmat. His subsequent discography shows a steady evolution between club-oriented formats and more contemplative pieces, with releases such as Americano and Sun Gypsy (2002), In Full Color (2004), Human Engine (2006), Amazing Things (2013), Espais (2015) and Everything at Once (2016). Under his own name or through Placid Angles, Nostalgic and Sol Set, John Beltran maintains a precise, fluid and atmospheric writing style, released on labels like Delsin, De:tuned and All Good Music.
