Trivium
Founded in Orlando, Florida, in 1999, Trivium developed in the wake of 2000s American metal by blending metalcore, thrash metal, heavy metal and elements of melodic death metal. Led by Matt Heafy, and later stabilized as a quartet with Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto and Alex Bent, Trivium started on the local scene before releasing Ember to Inferno in 2003, then broadened their audience with Ascendancy in 2005, which combines fast riffs, harsh vocals and cleaner vocal lines. The Crusade (2006) pushed the band further toward thrash, while Shogun (2008) offered longer, more elaborate compositions. Across its discography, Trivium varied the balance between rhythmic power and melody on In Waves (2011), Vengeance Falls (2013) and Silence in the Snow (2015), before returning to a more contrasted formula on The Sin and the Sentence (2017), What the Dead Men Say (2020) and In the Court of the Dragon (2021). Present on major international metal tours and festivals, Trivium maintains a songwriting approach based on guitar harmonies, shifts in vocal register and a clear articulation between thrash speed, modern metal tension and melodic choruses.
