Atreyu
Formed in 1998 in Yorba Linda, Orange County, California, Atreyu initially emerged within the American metalcore wave by combining hardcore-derived riffs, melodic choruses and an alternation of clean singing and screamed vocals. The band came to attention in the early 2000s with Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002) and then refined that approach on The Curse (2004) and A Death‑Grip on Yesterday (2006), albums that established a broader sound at the intersection of post‑hardcore, alternative metal and hard rock. With Lead Sails Paper Anchor (2007) Atreyu emphasized rock‑oriented songwriting and catchy vocal lines, before continuing with Congregation of the Damned (2009). After a hiatus from 2011 to 2014, Atreyu resumed activity with Long Live (2015) and In Our Wake (2018), continuing to appear on international metal and rock stages. The departure of Alex Varkatzas in 2020 altered the band’s internal balance: Brandon Saller moved to the forefront for clean vocals while Marc McKnight took over the more aggressive parts. This new configuration is reflected on Baptize (2021) and The Beautiful Dark of Life (2023), where Atreyu further pushed their blend of modern metal, hard‑rock choruses and post‑hardcore energy.
