Shakey Graves
Born in Austin, Texas as Alejandro Rose-Garcia, Shakey Graves has developed since the late 2000s a songwriting voice rooted in americana, at the intersection of folk, blues, country and a stripped-down rock. He first drew attention as a solo performer with a one-man-band setup that emphasized guitar, voice and a minimal rhythmic pulse—a sound evident on Roll the Bones, self-released in 2011. After the EP The Donor Blues in 2012, he broadened his studio and stage approach, notably with And the War Came in 2014, an album that introduced a fuller sound and included several tracks co-written with Esmé Patterson, including Dearly Departed. From that period onward he alternated solo shows and tight band formations, often trios, while maintaining a direct, narrative songwriting style. His discography continued with Can’t Wake Up (2018), the Look Alive EP (2020), Roll the Bones X (2021) for the ten-year anniversary of his debut, and Movie of the Week (2023). Alongside music, Alejandro Rose-Garcia has also worked as an actor, notably in Friday Night Lights and the Spy Kids franchise.
