Caamp
Formed in the early 2010s in Athens, Ohio, Caamp grew around Taylor Meier and Evan Westfall before expanding on stage into a variable lineup. Rooted in a North American folk and indie-folk vein, Caamp focuses on acoustic songs centered on Meier's deep voice, with guitars and banjos prominent, tight vocal harmonies and simple rhythms close to country and Americana. The band first gained regional recognition in Ohio college venues, then wider exposure on the independent circuit thanks to their self-released debut album, Caamp, in 2016. Caamp followed with the EP Boys (Side A) in 2018 and with By and By in 2019, which consolidated a style mixing slow ballads and more upbeat tracks. In 2020 Caamp released Live from Newport Music Hall, a document of concerts performed by an expanded lineup, before returning in 2022 with the album Lavender Days, marked by more introspective songwriting while remaining faithful to a stripped-down folk aesthetic. Since then the Caamp project has toured clubs and festivals across North America, often accompanied by additional musicians, in configurations ranging from a minimalist electric duo to a full band.
