John Craigie

Born in Los Angeles in 1980 and partly trained in Santa Cruz, John Craigie initially played in the psychedelic band Pond Rock before turning to solo folk at the crossroads of Americana and sung storytelling. Since the early 2000s he has built a career closely tied to the live scene, performing in modest venues, touring the US and presenting concerts where songs alternate with spoken, often ironic interludes that extend his work as a songwriter without tipping it into outright comedy. After several self‑released records his discography took shape with Montana Tale (2009), October Is the Kindest Month (2011), The Apocalypse Is Over (2013) and Working On My Farewell (2015). The albums No Rain, No Rose (2017), Asterisk The Universe (2020), Mermaid Salt (2022) and Pagan Church (2024) reveal a flexible acoustic approach centered on guitar, spare melodies and a constant attention to narrative. Onstage and in the studio Craigie has crossed paths with artists such as Jack Johnson, Gregory Alan Isakov, Shook Twins and Rainbow Girls, and his live albums Capricorn in Retrograde... Just Kidding... Live in Portland (2016) and Opening for Steinbeck (2017) offer a faithful portrait of that dynamic.
