Fruit Bats
Behind Fruit Bats, Eric D. Johnson has been developing since Chicago, USA, a project launched in 1997 that moves between indie folk, indie rock, psychedelic pop and Americana songwriting. Conceived from the start as a flexible formation around Johnson, Fruit Bats became part of the American independent scene of the early 2000s with Echolocation in 2001 and Mouthfuls in 2003, two records where acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies and pop melodies create a landscape that is both pastoral and slightly dreamy. After several years of recording silence, Fruit Bats returned with Spelled in Bones in 2009 and Tripper in 2011, broadening their format while remaining song-centered. At the same time, Eric D. Johnson has participated in other contexts of the American indie scene, notably as a musician with The Shins, before continuing Fruit Bats with Absolute Loser in 2016, Gold Past Life in 2019, The Pet Parade in 2021 and A River Running to Your Heart in 2023. Across the albums, Fruit Bats refines a clear, organic sound made of melodic folk, soft rock and subtle psychedelic touches.
