Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
Born in St. Louis and raised in Hermann, Missouri, and later based in Denver, Nathaniel Rateliff first developed a songwriting style rooted in folk, Americana and blues-tinged rock before, with The Night Sweats, opening a more soul and rhythm and blues direction. The band formed in the early 2010s around Rateliff and longtime collaborators from the Denver scene, with an expanded lineup where the rhythm section, keyboards and horns occupy a central place. Before Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Rateliff played notably in Born in the Flood, then solo and with Nathaniel Rateliff & the Wheel, a period marked by the albums In Memory of Loss (2010) and Falling Faster Than You Can Run (2013), more stripped-down and introspective. The Night Sweats turning point took shape on stage in Denver and Boulder, then with the 2015 album Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, which established a direct sound mixing southern soul, garage rock, gospel and rock’n’roll. The follow-up confirms this orientation with A Little Something More From... (2016), Tearing at the Seams (2018), The Future (2021) and South of Here (2024). Parallel, Nathaniel Rateliff also pursues solo work, notably with And It’s Still Alright (2020), underscoring the constant alternation between collective energy and personal writing within Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.
