Pete Tong
Born in Dartford, Kent, in 1960, Pete Tong first made his mark on the British soul scenes of the late 1970s before moving into music journalism and A&R at London Records, where he helped bring Chicago house to the UK — notably with the compilation The House Sound of Chicago, Vol. 1 in 1986. As a DJ, radio presenter and producer, Tong has since built a career at the intersection of house, dance music and club culture, combining a sharp ear for selection with mainstream formats and a constant presence between the UK, Ibiza and the United States. On radio he is closely associated with BBC Radio 1, launching Essential Selection in 1991 and overseeing Essential Mix from 1993 — two programs that became enduring touchstones for electronic music. In clubs he left a mark on Ibiza nightlife with Pure Pacha (2003–2007), later Wonderland at Eden, and he also revived the All Gone Pete Tong brand. His discography mixes compilations and orchestral projects, including Classic House (2016), Ibiza Classics (2017), Chilled Classics (2019) and Pete Tong & Friends – Ibiza Classics (2021), developed through his collaboration with Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra.
