Kosheen

Formed in Bristol in 1999 around Welsh singer Sian Evans and producers Markee Ledge and Darren Beale, Kosheen initially emerged from the British electronic scene by blending drum and bass, breakbeat, trip hop and a more straightforward pop songwriting. Kosheen appeared at a time when the boundaries between club music and song were blurring, with a sound combining broken rhythms, dark textures, melodic choruses and a central role for the voice. After several singles around the turn of the millennium, the trio released Resist in 2001 and Kokopelli in 2003, an album that increased the presence of guitars and an alternative rock vein. Kosheen’s discography continued with Damage (2007), Independence (2012) and Solitude (2013), maintaining the tension between electronics, pop and more melancholic atmospheres. Over the years Kosheen moved between electronic stages, clubs and festivals while evolving their breakbeat formula toward a more hybrid format. Since 2019 Kosheen has returned to the stage in a new lineup led by Sian Evans, with Ron McElroy and Mitchell Glover.
