Loathe
Formed in Liverpool in 2014, Loathe develops contemporary metal at the intersection of metalcore, nu metal and alternative metal, with passages drawing on shoegaze, post-hardcore, industrial and ambient. The band, now centered on Kadeem France, Erik Bickerstaffe, Sean Radcliffe and Feisal El-Khazragi, first gained attention with the EP Prepare Consume Proceed in 2015 (reissued in 2016), before widening their scope with The Cold Sun in 2017. Loathe refined its identity with the split This Is as One shared with Holding Absence in 2018, and with I Let It In and It Took Everything in 2020, an album that alternates rhythmic density, misty textures and interplay between clean and saturated vocals. In 2021 Loathe took a different turn with The Things They Believe, an instrumental record focused on atmospheric layers and a more abstract approach to songwriting. Having toured and shared bills with Bury Tomorrow, SikTh, Of Mice & Men, Crystal Lake, Stray from the Path and Spiritbox, Loathe belongs to a British heavy scene open to hybridization, where precise riffs coexist with a marked emphasis on ambience and sonic tension.
