Hail The Sun
Formed in 2009 in Chico, California, Hail The Sun sits within American post-hardcore, blending elements of progressive rock, math rock and screamo, with a nervy songwriting, frequent tempo changes and a voice that is often high-pitched carried by Donovan Melero, who also handles the drums. The band has since its beginnings comprised Donovan Melero, Shane Gann, Aric Garcia and John Stirrat, a stability that runs through its entire discography. After a first self-produced album, POW! Right in the Kisser! in 2010, Hail The Sun quickly refines its identity on the Elephantitis EP in 2012, then gains visibility with Wake in 2014 on Blue Swan Records. The move to Equal Vision marks a new phase with Culture Scars in 2016, the Secret Wars EP in 2017 and Mental Knife in 2018, where the band pushes further its balance between melodic tension, rhythmic complexity and abrasive energy. Hail The Sun continues this trajectory with New Age Filth in 2021 and Divine Inner Tension in 2023. Active on post-hardcore, alternative and progressive stages, Hail The Sun has toured with bands like Dance Gavin Dance, Circa Survive, I the Mighty or Silverstein, while maintaining a direct and dense format centered on the interaction between sharp guitars, a moving bass and a highly structured rhythm section.
