Martyn
Born in Geldrop in the Netherlands as Martijn Deijkers, Martyn has, since the late 1990s, developed a career at the crossroads of drum and bass, dubstep, house and techno. Initially active as a drum and bass DJ from 1996, Martyn evolved his writing in the mid-2000s with early maxis released from 2005, blending British bass music, dub textures, broken rhythms and a jungle heritage. This approach took shape on Great Lengths in 2009 and on the compilation Fabric 50 in 2010, which placed Martyn in a constant dialogue between English club music and house and techno traditions. With Ghost People in 2011 on Brainfeeder, then The Air Between Words in 2014 and Voids in 2018, Martyn refined a more supple, spatial sound built on detailed basslines, mobile percussion and structures that favour movement between domestic listening and the dancefloor. Martyn also remains connected to the label 3024, through which he extends this aesthetic in his productions and DJ sets.
