Scuba
Under the name Scuba, Paul Rose has since the mid-2000s developed a career positioned between London, where he first established himself, and Berlin, a city to which his artistic evolution remains strongly linked. British producer and DJ, he emerged in the wake of the dubstep scene with a tense, deep sound, heavily marked by bass, before gradually opening his music toward techno, house and various forms of brighter, more melodic club music. Scuba founded the label Hotflush Recordings in 2003, an important structure for his own releases as well as for artists from the British bass and electronic scenes. His discography under this name includes notably A Mutual Antipathy in 2008, Triangulation in 2010, Personality in 2012 and Claustrophobia in 2015, albums that accompany a shift from his early dubstep references toward forms that are more open, blending atmospheric textures, techno pulsation and house references. In parallel, Paul Rose develops the alias SCB for productions more directly aimed at the club, and he has permanently established himself in the international circuit of clubs and electronic festivals. Scuba also marked Berlin's nightlife with SUB:STANCE parties at Berghain, extended by several mixes and compilations, then more recently resumed his longer releases with Diivorce in 2021, Digital Underground in 2023 and D:U:2 in 2024, where rave, breakbeat hardcore and acid house influences reappear.
