Pearson Sound
Based in London, David Kennedy has been developing since the late 2000s the Pearson Sound project, after having first published under the names Ramadanman and Maurice Donovan. His work sits at the intersection of house, dubstep, UK garage, UK funky and jungle, with a club approach marked by broken rhythms, mobile basslines and a deliberately pared-back production. In 2007 he founded the Hessle Audio label with Ben UFO and Pangaea, a central structure in the evolution of British bass scenes and their more hybrid offshoots. Pearson Sound then built a career comprising maxi EPs, singles and remixes for artists from pop and electronic horizons, while maintaining a regular presence as a DJ on club and festival stages in Europe and beyond. His first album, Pearson Sound, appeared in 2015 on Hessle Audio and extended this taut aesthetic, both functional for the dancefloor and attentive to sonic detail. Among his releases under this name are also the EPs Clutch / Underdog / Piston in 2012, Lola / Power Drumsss / Starburst in 2013, Robin Chasing Butterflies / Eels / Heal Me in 2017, Alien Mode / Cobwebs / Everything Inside Out in 2020 and Red Sky / Sinkhole / Freefall / Around in Circles in 2022. Pearson Sound also co-hosted a show on Rinse FM and has established himself a lasting presence in London’s club culture.
