Jinjer

Originally rooted in Donetsk’s metal scene in Ukraine, Jinjer formed in the late 2000s and soon stabilized its lineup around vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk, guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov, bassist Eugene Abdukhanov and drummer Vladislav Ulasevich. Later based in Kyiv, Jinjer developed a hybrid metal style at the crossroads of metalcore, groove and progressive metal, characterized by syncopated riffs, frequent time-signature changes and the alternation of clean singing and growls. After the first EP Inhale, Don’t Breathe (2012), the band released the albums Cloud Factory (2014) and King of Everything (2016), which established a sound blending djent, hardcore, jazz and reggae influences. With Macro (2019) and Wallflowers (2021), Jinjer refined a darker, more technical songwriting approach in which the rhythm section plays a central role. Highly active on tour, Jinjer moved from Eastern European clubs to major international festival stages and frequently opened for established metal acts. The live release Alive in Melbourne (2020) documents this stage activity, and from 2022 Jinjer has been performing abroad as an official representative of Ukrainian culture, maintaining a constant link between their country’s current events and the themes addressed in their lyrics.
