Jain

Born in Toulouse in 1992, Jain, whose real name is Jeanne Galice, has since the mid-2010s developed a pop music primarily sung in English, nourished by reggae, light electronics, African rhythms, and a worldbeat sensibility linked to a childhood spent between France, Dubai, Congo-Brazzaville and Abu Dhabi. After her first demos recorded in Pointe-Noire, Jain was spotted via Myspace and accompanied by Yodelice, who participated in her launch and in the production of her beginnings. The EP Hope appeared in 2015, followed the same year by the album Zanaka, where short, syncopated tracks settled, built around the voice, percussion and a marked sense of the chorus. Jain then went on to festival and touring in France and internationally, with appearances on stages such as Solidays, Lollapalooza or Coachella. Her second album, Souldier, released in 2018, prolongs this open-to-rhythm-movements pop writing and melodic motifs drawn from several traditions. In 2023, Jain released The Fool, again produced with Yodelice, with a more art pop and introspective orientation without breaking with her taste for direct formats. Along her career she has also participated in collaborations, notably with the Lamomali collective and Fakear.
