Other Lives

Formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Other Lives centers on Jesse Tabish, Jonathon Mooney and Josh Onstott, a core group of musicians whose songwriting first took shape under the name Kunek, with the album Flight of the Flynns in 2006, before adopting its current identity. Other Lives’ music sits within orchestral and atmospheric indie rock where chamber folk, baroque pop and textures reminiscent of film score intersect, with a pronounced attention to arrangements, slow dynamics, and acoustic timbres. After an EP in 2008, the band released Other Lives in 2009, then Tamer Animals in 2011, a record that accompanied broader visibility on North American and European stages, notably during tours with Bon Iver. An EP Mind the Gap appeared in 2012, followed by Rituals in 2015, which extended their approach by adding a brighter and more mobile production. Danny Reisch then joined the ensemble on drums, while the lineup pursued a spaced but steady path with For Their Love in 2020. In this trajectory, Other Lives develops a language made of piano, strings, subdued percussion and restrained vocals, between cinematic grandeur and the precision of the pop format.
