The Veils

Led by New Zealand singer-songwriter Finn Andrews, The Veils formed in the early 2000s in London, where most of their trajectory unfolded between the British scene and recurring trips back to New Zealand. Rooted in indie rock and alternative music, The Veils developed a dark, melodic world shaped by folk, post-punk and occasional gospel influences, and by a constant tension between stripped-down ballads and more noisy outbursts. Initially signed to Rough Trade, the band released The Runaway Found (2004) and Nux Vomica (2006), which established their sonic signature of taut guitars and dense arrangements. Sun Gangs (2009) and Time Stays, We Go (2013) continued the songwriting centered on Finn Andrews’ voice, before a harsher, more experimental turn on Total Depravity (2016). In 2017 The Veils appeared in David Lynch’s series Twin Peaks: The Return. The 2023 album …And Out of the Void Came Love demonstrates the project’s continuity despite lineup changes and periods of hiatus.
