Boy Harsher

Born in Savannah, Georgia, and later based in Northampton, Massachusetts, Boy Harsher brings together Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, who met at film school before launching their first project, Teen Dreamz, in 2013—quickly renamed Boy Harsher in 2014. The duo creates electronic music at the crossroads of darkwave, coldwave, electropop and a post‑industrial aesthetic, featuring spare rhythms, taut synth textures and a vocal that shifts between spoken and sung in an often minimal register. Boy Harsher released the EP Lesser Man in 2014, the album Yr Body Is Nothing in 2016, followed by the Country Girl EP in 2017 and Careful in 2019; that year also saw the release of Country Girl Uncut and the remix album Careful Remixes. In 2018 Boy Harsher founded their own label, Nude Club, to reissue and manage part of their catalogue. Their work remains closely tied to imagery and cinema, an aspect extended by The Runner (Original Soundtrack) in 2022, conceived alongside the short film The Runner. Boy Harsher have also performed on international post‑punk and electronic stages, including Primavera Sound, Roadburn, Cruel World and Coachella.
