Lebanon Hanover
A post‑punk and cold wave duo formed in the early 2010s, Lebanon Hanover brings together Swiss musician Larissa Iceglass and Briton William Maybelline around a stripped‑down aesthetic influenced by new wave and the darker sounds of the 1980s. Originating in Sunderland, England, and later operating between Berlin and the UK, Lebanon Hanover gradually established itself on Europe’s independent scenes devoted to gothic and minimalist music. Their first album, The World Is Getting Colder (2012), followed the same year by Why Not Just Be Solo, and then Tomb For Two (2013), set out a musical language built on repetitive bass lines, mechanical rhythms and a detached vocal delivery, primarily in English and occasionally in German. With Besides the Abyss (2015) and Let Them Be Alien (2018) the duo slightly broadened their textures, leaning more on contrasts between biting guitars and synth pads. Sci Fi Sky (2020) reveals more expansive, melancholic atmospheres while retaining the minimal rigor that defines the project both live and in the studio.
