Cold Cave
Cold Cave is a synthpop and darkwave project started in 2007 in Philadelphia by American singer‑songwriter Wesley Eisold. The music developed at the intersection of cold wave, post‑punk and a dark electronic pop indebted to the 1980s. Coming from the hardcore punk scene (Give Up the Ghost, Some Girls), Eisold refocused his writing with Cold Cave toward songs built around repetitive synth lines, dry drum machines and a deep vocal delivery—situated between disenchanted romanticism and minimal tension. After beginnings marked by noise experiments and self‑produced recordings, the project gained wider attention with the album Love Comes Close in 2009 and Cherish the Light Years in 2011, both released on independent American labels. The compilation Cremations (2009) and Full Cold Moon (2014) gather EPs and singles that document Cold Cave’s shift from an abrasive sound to more melodic songwriting, while retaining a cold, nocturnal aesthetic. Now based in Los Angeles, Cold Cave centers on Wesley Eisold with a fluid live lineup, performing on stages associated with goth, industrial and alternative music and continuing—notably with the EP Fate in Seven Lessons (2021)—to explore melancholic, direct synthetic music.
