French Police

Based in Chicago, the trio French Police brings together brothers Brian and Jesse Flores with bassist Jose Vega to present a dark, melodic take on indie rock. Formed in the late 2010s, French Police operates within a post-punk and coldwave vein, characterized by prominent bass lines, clear, repetitive guitars, minimalist rhythms and detached vocals that evoke the new wave aesthetic of the 1980s while remaining rooted in contemporary songwriting. The band released its first tracks on the local DIY circuit before gaining notice on North America’s alternative scenes, playing small venues and festivals devoted to goth, post-punk and darkwave. The self-titled album French Police (2019) followed by Haunted Castle (2021) shape a discography mixing English and Spanish songs, placing French Police in a melancholic, danceable register often associated with nocturnal, urban imagery.
