Mathew Jonson
Born in Canada and emerging in the early 2000s on the Vancouver scene, Mathew Jonson shapes an electronic sound at the border of minimal techno, house and a more fluid melodic approach, often built on hypnotic motifs, shifting basslines and a strong sense of improvisation. The track “New Identity,” released in 2001, marks Jonson’s emergence under his own name, before a career that has alternated between solo productions, DJ sets and collective formats. He has also developed important group work with Cobblestone Jazz, a pivotal trio in his trajectory, as well as projects with Midnight Operator and Modern Deep Left Quartet. His activity extends to labels such as Wagon Repair, Itiswhatitis and Freedom Engine, which have accompanied different stages of his path. Over the years Mathew Jonson has produced remixes for artists as varied as Moby, Cybotron, The Chemical Brothers, Nelly Furtado and VCMG, while remaining rooted in the club and festival circuits of North America and Europe.
