Yebba
Born Abbey Smith in West Memphis, Arkansas, Yebba emerged on the contemporary soul and R&B scene in the late 2010s, blending a gospel heritage, introspective songwriting and jazz-tinged arrangements. Trained in church choirs before relocating to New York, she drew attention with a live performance of 'My Mind' and then with the 2017 single 'Evergreen', establishing a style centered on the voice, dense vocal harmonies and a strongly melodic dynamic. Collaborations quickly became important in her career, notably with Sam Smith, PJ Morton, Mark Ronson and Ed Sheeran, who featured Yebba on tracks that move between pop, R&B and modern soul and brought her to diverse international stages, from TV shows to festivals. Her debut album 'Dawn', released in 2021, brings together this musical landscape—soul ballads, jazz influences, pop touches and gospel echoes—anchored by songs such as 'Distance' and 'October Sky'. Through Yebba, Abbey Smith develops songwriting focused on emotional nuance, often subtle rhythmic work and a sonic universe rooted in American soul while in conversation with the current R&B scene.
