Born Abbey Smith in West Memphis, Arkansas, Yebba emerged on the contemporary soul and R&B scene in the late 2010s, blending a gospel heritage, introspective songwriting and jazz-tinged arrangements. Trained in church choirs before relocating to New York, she drew attention with a live performance of 'My Mind' and then with the 2017 single 'Evergreen', establishing a style centered on the voice, dense vocal harmonies and a strongly melodic dynamic.
