Giveon
Born in 1995 in Long Beach, California, Giveon, whose full name is Giveon Dezmann Evans, has established himself in contemporary R&B with an immediately recognizable baritone voice, supported by sparse productions with soul and pop accents. He first attracted attention at the end of the 2010s with several online singles, before collaborating with Drake on “Chicago Freestyle” in 2020, which firmly placed him on the R&B landscape. The same year saw the release of the EP “Take Time” (2020), notably featuring “Heartbreak Anniversary”, followed a few months later by “When It’s All Said and Done” (2020), with similar but darker sonorities. These two projects were subsequently combined and expanded on the compilation “When It’s All Said and Done… Take Time” in 2021, which synthesizes the first phase of Giveon’s work around intimate themes such as breakups, memory and male vulnerability. At the same time, Giveon multiplied collaborations, notably appearing on “Peaches” alongside Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar in 2021, while asserting an aesthetic of slow tempos, atmospheric arrangements and very direct melodic lines. In 2022, the album “Give or Take” extended this introspective writing, confirming Giveon in an R&B vein both classic in intent and modern in sonic textures.
